Why Losing Weight Is Mind Over Matter!

I’ve heard and read inspirational quotes that sounded to the effect of “If you believe you can, you will”.

That never made much sense in my mind until this past year. I’ve been overweight for most of my life and I’ve been battling with my weight for may be just as long.

But not until this past year was I truly ready to begin this journey.

When we set off to lose weight we want it to be gone in a week, although it took us a lifetime to get to this point.

I’ve learned to talk myself off the edge by telling myself:

1. You didn’t get this way overnight!

2. Give yourself a year and see where you’ll be.

3. It’s not easy but it’s worth it!

4. No one is going to do this for you and you don’t need anyone to cheer you on. You should love yourself enough to do it when no one is looking.

5. Just take it one day at a time. You’re stronger than you think!

Literally, these thoughts run through my head daily! They help me when I need that extra push.

There are mornings when I don’t want to get up and workout, but I remind myself a year from now I won’t be in the same position I was yesterday if I don’t give up.

Even when I eat something I know I’m not supposed to I don’t beat myself up. I say to myself “Okay, that wasn’t great, but you’ll do better tomorrow. Tomorrow is a new day!”

This journey is truly a mental journey. If you have control of your thoughts and emotions you’ll have control over your body!

You have to want this! You have to want this more than the cookie or the ice cream ( in which you can totally have in moderation. But I’ll talk about that later on).

I want to live to see my son grow old. But I did this for me. I can’t teach him to love himself if I can barely look at myself in the mirror. I needed to get to a place of self-love. So I had to let a lot of the hurt go. I cried many times by myself in the shower not letting anyone know I was hurting. But I needed to go through all those emotions to get where I am now.

So if you take just one thing from all that I have written I want you to get this: “You are strong and worthy. You are beautiful just the way you are, but you need to get healthy so that you can live up to your full potential. It doesn’t matter what they’ll say when they see you’re trying again. At least you’re trying.”

The first step is trying and the next step is not giving up when things get hard!

Keep going! If no one else believes in you know that I do. You’ve got this!
